CHARITIES & SELECTION CRITERIA Topics
CHARITIES SELECTION CRITERIA The Foundation of the Parade of Nations, also known as FPON, is a volunteer organization operating in the City of Cornwall. Under its "A Light in the Tunnel" Program, FPON’s mission is to promote acceptance and inclusion of developmentally challenged individuals of all ages and backgrounds and also to fund small local charities. These particular small local charities are not covered under the umbrella of Government or large corporations (e.g., United Way). These small charities have to look elsewhere to find the funds to fulfill their mandate. The small charities as understood and described above will hereafter be referred as charities. The FPON strives to engage more people in helping the less fortunate. This is accomplished by organizing fun activities, social events and a festival. The Foundation supports charities striving to break the cycle of poverty and relieve suffering. The FPON supports charities working in the following areas:
The FPON seeks to support small “grass roots” charities where the funds will have the greatest impact. It’s a fact that in every charitable organization a portion of the charities’ resources must be allocated to fundraising. These charities use their limited funds for fundraising that may not accomplish the desired result and in fact resulting in a deficit. The FPON views its support as a means of permitting these charities to allocate more of their financial resources to helping people. Therefore, the charities that do not have a large portion of their annual funding secured on an ongoing basis are good candidates . To qualify for the Foundation‘s funding, a charity must meet the following criteria:
The FPON will not fund deficits nor support work in of the following areas:
The charities selected will be required to provide assistance to a specific fundraising event in a manner to be determined by the Foundation. As stated, one of the Foundation’s goals is “Awareness” therefore, the selected charities will be required to staff a booth/table at a specific fundraising event and provide information about the charity for the event participants. To be eligible for consideration, qualifying charities must provide the following information to the Foundation.
To achieve the goal of greatest impact and to provide adequate exposure to charitable causes, the Foundation selects only a small number of charities to support. The FPON provides funding on an annual basis. The Foundation does not solicit applications and charities seeking repeat funding must reapply annually.
