At the age of 15, Claude got his first steady gig playing in a band called The Flyers at a bar in Quebec. For many years he played with Village, a band that was quite popular in the Cornwall area. In his twenties, Claude met Bob Flynn from Virginia and together they formed a duo, which toured in the States and Ontario. Bob & Claude were featured on CBC radio and were well-known entertainment in the Ottawa area for more than ten years.
1n 1990 Claude married and moved to Japan for two years where he played with the Thirty Grass Boys, a Japanese Blue Grass Band. His time in Japan was musically productive and saw Claude compose and record a number of original songs.
After returning from Japan, Claude settled in Dundela with his wife, and started raising a family. He met Jeanne Ward in the late 90’s and the band Easy Pickins was formed.

Most of the guitar players on his street were taught by Vincent Plamondon, Claude Plamondon (Plum’s) father. Claude Clement started playing bass at age 13. “There were too many guitar players...in high school… Plum was starting a band...there were no bass players ...I volunteered...the rest is history.” Their group was called VILLAGE and it was made up of Cornwall local musicians Plum (Claude Plamondon) Gerry Leduc, Paul Giroux, Bernie Tessier, John Jarvo and Claude Clement on bass.
Today Claude does most of his playing as a member of Cornwall's BUTLERS, made up of founding member Bob Bazinet, George Charron, Claude Clement and Larry Sylvain. Claude is a big fan of The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan.
Of EASY PICKINS Claude says: “It’s a real pleasure to play along side of Plum and Jeanne. I have a genuine appreciation for their talent as songwriters. And it’s great to play with Plum after all these years. It brings back memories of our youth when we used to rehearse in his parents garage during warm summer days in Cornwall.”

This is from a newspaper in Ahkwesahsne called, “A Special People in a Special Place"
The Ahkwesasne Women singers were formed in 1999 by four inspired, and inspiring women; Bear Fox, Katsitsionni Fox, Elizabeth Nanitcoke and Iawentas Nanticoke. The women were driven by the need to protect and preserve the Kanienkeha (Mohawk Language), traditional Kanienkeha:ka (Mohawk People)customs and stories, as well as the oral traditions that are passed down from grandmother to grand-daughter. It was founded on the principle that songs are the easiest way to pass on the language and culture to future generations. Blessed with beautiful singing voices, the women put their talents and their messages together to form a singing group that would write and perform traditional Kanienkeha:ka songs. Since their inception, the Ahkwesahsne Women Singers have brought their beautiful and powerful music to the community of Ahkwesasne.
Members of group are in various stages of their lives - grandmothers, mothers, aunts, daughters, sisters and cousins. They are teachers, environmental researchers, social workers and students. They take time out of their personal and professional lives to assist their community whenever possible. The women also volunteer for fundraising activities and provide assistance to individual community members when asked.
Aside from singing Haudenosaunee social songs, some members of Kontiwennenhawi are song writers, though they work with Elders and fluent speakers from Ahkwesahsne to ensure the correct usage and spelling of words. These songs contain their own messages that they believe are important for the Mohawk people to know and remember. Their songs honor our Elders, Kanienkehaka teachers, Mother Earth, Grandmother Moon, and Grandfather Thunder. Kontiwennenhawi is committed to continuing the traditions of our ancestors and preserving our language and culture through their beautiful songs and inspiring efforts.
Melanie grew up in Cornwall, Ontario. Driven by the artistic forces within, she found herself crossing the globe with a guitar in her hand. There in Australia, she happend upon a vital link in her creative chain. Angus. Born and bred in australia, he has lived with music in his veins for as long as he can remember. Through this unique partnership, the duo explore a musical relationship of passion and intrigue. Melanie's emotional original compositions are beautifully haunting and trully inspiring. The pair front the band 'The General Electryk' who will tour North America this summer, combined with Melanie's return home it is sweet testament to her maturity as an artist. Returning with international acclaim and a confidence ready to amaze, this exciting duo is 'set to sail' on the next leg of their musical journey.

NATIVE FOLK ARTIST ATSIAKTONKIE WINS AWARD FOR BEST FOLK RECORDING AT THE 11th ANNUAL NATIVE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS
MASSENA, NY (October 5, 2009)— Strong Wind Records is pleased to announce that Native Folk Singer-Songwriter Atsiaktonkie (ah-jeeak-doon-gee-ay) and his current CD Four Wolves Prophecy was the winning recipient of a NAMMY Award for Best Folk Recording at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards (NAMA) held Saturday, October 3 at the Seneca Niagara Hotel & Casino in Niagara Falls, NY.
"This is such a great honor," said Atsiaktonkie about winning a NAMMY Award. "I would like to thank everybody who has supported me along the way; the Creator, my family, friends, fans, the media, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, the Akwesasne People, Saxon Recordings, and all the great musicians who shared their talent on the album; Bobby Jacobs, Matt Dailey, Billy Lashomb, Stacy Herne, and Dave Anderson."
The Native American Music Awards & Association is the world's leading membership-based association consisting of music industry professionals directly involved in the recording and distribution of traditional and contemporary Native American Music initiatives. The growing success of the Awards show features over one hundred and fifty nominees annually, with at least one third of those nominees being new artists. For the past eleven years the Awards has set industry standards for professional Native American musicians who are gaining greater acceptance and exposure from both national and international audience. Most of the GRAMMY Award recipients in the Native category have previously won a NAMMY Award.
Atsiaktonkie, who is currently working on his new album, is the first Mohawk from the Akwesasne region to win a NAMMY, which is the equivalent to winning a GRAMMY Award. Atsiaktonkie is donating half the proceeds of all CD sales to the Akwesasne Freedom School, which helps preserve the Mohawk culture and language that is diminishing rapidly.
"This is such an amazing experience," said Atsiaktonkie. "Maybe with a NAMMY under my belt, I will be able to sell enough CDs to give a substantial amount of money to Freedom School."
Atsiaktonkie's Four Wolves Prophecy CD can be purchased locally on the St. Regis Mohawk reservation at CKON Radio, The Bear's Den, Nation Bookstore, Wild Bill's, #9 Truckstop, Kanienkehaka Fuels, as well as at www.atsiaktonkie.com and www.drumbeatindianarts.com.
I was born in Cornwall Ontario in 1971, only child of two loving parents who are still very much together. The only time I have left Cornwall was to go to College and working in such cities as Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. I have travelled to Australia for a few months on holiday. It is there while visiting there beautiful beaches that I discovered my love of playing music. I saw the influence I had on people, and how I made them feel. Upon living in Montreal I discovered Montreal Tam Tams which was full of beautiful people gathering every Sunday to drum and dance and have a good time. I found a small bongo that my mom’s aunt had given to me as a child and started playing it. I found that I could really play. I needed a larger drum, and one day there it was in an antique store window. It was a large drum like not other drum with carvings all over the drum. I was a gift from the angels above, it is called a Bamileke Drum. I brought it to tam tams every week and learnt to really play. After that, I was hooked and save up to buy as many different types of drums to learn new styles. Now living back in Cornwall, I’m hoping to bring the same type of pleasure I had in Montreal with drumming. I would love to have many friends playing drums in the park enjoying life. I drum almost every Saturday by the water at Lamoureux Park. I hope to bring a true love of drumming to as many people possible.

Shekon Sewakwekon,
My name is Theresa Fox, my Mohawk name is Kenkiohkoktha, and I am of the Wolf Clan. My Mohawk name means I am at the back of a crowd of people or I am the end of a long line of people. I have five children and I am married to Sky Fox. He is an Ironworker. My children's ages range from 10 to 21 years old. My oldest is a girl and I have four boys.
I was born into a big family. There are eight boys, six girls and I am the youngest. My Mother and Father were hard working. They made sure we were well provided for. They always made sure we had a table full of food and clean clothes to wear. We didn't have a lot of money, but I didn't feel that we had to go without anything. I always felt like we were rich because I was so happy and I always felt loved. We always looked out for one another, and at times my sisters were like my Mother's too.
I lived in Akwesasne for forty years now, and I love our community. I especially love how our people care for one another. If someone is going through hard times, the community comes together for a fundraiser and a lot of support. I always try to do my best to help out when I can.
I am part of a women's singing group called "Kontiwennenhawi" which means Carriers of the Words. We get together once a week and talk, laugh and learn songs. Our duties as a Singing Society is to help out in our community. We are often asked to sing for visitors or for the children in our community. We help out at fundraisers and donate money to people who are in need. We have a community fund account and we raise money by selling our CD's or by singing outside of our community.

Corey Jay Jocko
(613) 551-9098
Corey Jay Jocko (J.O.C. – music logo) a struggling new local artist, is a brave Akwesasne young man of just twenty-two. He is pursuing his dream in spite of odds against him, into the competitive world of music as a budding artist - breaking out to become a native Hip-Hop/Rap singer and aspiring song writer. Corey Jay is intrinsically motivated to change and believes he could be a positive role- model to the young people. His passion is expressed when he talks to you.
Grief is also no stranger to Corey Hay. Dealing with his mother’s illness to cancer (who is in remission) at a tender age of fifteen and tragically loosing four cousins within two years. He refers to them as Bro’s (since he is an only child). With all the horrendous grief Corey turned to music, Hip-Hop/Rap to soothe his soul. After all he always listened to Hip-Hop but never thought he would be writing/singing himself today.
Jocko has stated “When I get serious with music. Music sets serious with me” Then added, “My stress reliever is my music, it’s my life and music is my therapy” If you look at Corey Jay, he appears pensive. His pain is still eminent on his face. Then challenged of disappointment that he experiences doesn’t’ allow him to give up either. That’s one of his strong messages to the young people. “Never give up” He was scheduled to speak at Akwesasne Mohawk School on December 11th to a young crow of 4th, 5th and 6th graders. The principal, who set this up, suddenly had to leave here, because her mother was seriously hill. This engagement was cancelled. Another showing, a Christmas Concert for December 13th on a Saturday at the A’nowara’ko:wa Arena fell through also due to a hockey game. That would be schedule at much later date.
But another opportunity arose on December 12th at 6 o’clock at the Akwesasne Adolescent Groupe Home-longwanonhsaseti-Cornwall Island for one hour to do his presentation. Corey Jay was apprehensive at the beginning. Once he got into his groove he relaxed for the remaining of his talk. That went well, thanks to Gerald Ramson fro allowing him to speak to the young, but Ramson wasn’t present for the evening. Julie Gambill Case Survivor was available and encouraged Corey to perform his song, after the speech, which he did gladly. This will be added to his portfolio.
Here are some samples of his collection so far. On April 16, 2008-Standard_freeholder interview Corey Jay along with a picture on the Front Page. Also a National Press on CTV Adding that he had been nominated in four categories at the 1st annual native Emusic wards- received his tickets and was unable to attend this important event because of another engagement – with regrets- saved these tickets into his portfolio anyways. Corey is working on an album- CD - with all his songs on it. Hopefully to be finished by summer of 2009.
On December 3rd, 2008, Jocko joined Toastmasters International – Smart City in Cornwall, to improve his pubic speaking. Most members wait at least six months before attempting their first presentation. Not Corey, he was determined to do his speech on the same night he became a member and actually did very well.
Corey Hay Jocko is hosting a show with friends Davey and Guyanne Bédard-Javey Entertainment at the Boys & Girl Club and says “Stay Strong.

Kevin Rivette
Kevin Rivette, a local Cornwall artist dreamt, since the age of five, of making a huge impact on the Canadian music scene while helping several worthwhile causes in his hometown, regionally and nationally. After listening to a song at a friend’s funeral, he was inspired to make that dream come true, in addition to commemorating some friends.
Through countless hours of hard work, Rivette requested the mechanical rights to the English Song “Goodbye” LBR Music (Lionel Brockman Richie Music) in Santa Monica California. He was pleasantly surprised when both interpretations of his English version of “Adieu” and translated version by Ontario, Cornwall’s native and French Canadian artist and lyricist, Benoit Brisson, was accepted by LBR Music and started the journey to make a difference.
In fact, the LBR Group loved the French version, and chose to register the song with The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the American counterpart of SOCAN. This masterpiece was created by a producer of incredible talent Roy “Nip” Nichols, percussionist, with the help of Cornwall’s Own Dreambuilder Studios (members of the Ontario’s French Canadian Group “Medius”, i.e., Peter Nichols and Mike Tessier - in the background tracks of the Rivette’s CD. It was a combined effort, as an act of kindness towards causes that had touch personally each person in this group.
Rivette pays tribute to all musicians in the area, not only in his family, but those who played in Karaoke Bars and hope to live the same dream remembering that perseverance is the key. Several local and regional partners showcased on the CD Covers offered their own expertise and resources “free of charge” in tribute to their family members and friends lost to sickness and war.
Rivette had another vision for this project; he wanted to raise community awareness, here in Cornwall, for better medical screening, therapies and testing. This project was is own therapy to grieve and morn the lost of many people who touched him musically and personally. Rivette’s only wish is to commemorate their legacy while giving hope through fundraising efforts making a difference today for several generations to come.
In addition, in light of his military background, as a cadet and officer with the CIL, Rivette wants to pay tribute to military families and to their loved ones for their sacrifice in Afghanistan. For those left behind, sometime there are hidden financial struggles, specially related to the education of the children. Rivette says:” We as a community and a country owe this debt of gratitude to these families because it is our civic responsibility to play it forward when the governments, politicians and bureaucrats choose not to!
Rivette, along with two local Silver Cross Parents’ families have collectively lobbied for the past year all of the provincial and federal governments for financial assistance to get this project recognized as a Heritage Project in memory of those Canadian Soldiers but was not able to get the funding. Being determined more than ever, Rivette decided to finance the project himself in hope the project would grow as big as his vision for a better community. Now with partners from the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation, Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and the Royal Canadian Regiment’s Education Fund for Children of Fallen Soldiers, Rivette hopes that this project will take a life of its own and that the community and the entire country will give this the support it will need to go and make a difference in various communities across the region and in Canada. Rivette is proud to include the efforts of the business community efforts by showcasing the Choose Cornwall.ca on the cover of his project.
Rivette obtained permission from Multiplatinum Artist Lionel Richie for Local Charity project Goodbye- Living the power of a dream /Adieu–Vivant la puissance d’un rêve. The CD will soon be released for sale to help Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation, Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and the RCR Canadian Regiment Education Fund for Children of Fallen Soldiers.
You may find the CDs at the Caisse Populaire (Montreal Road and the Pitt Street locations), Pharmacy Jean Coutu, by calling Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation at 613-930-4508, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation at 613-247-3527. or emailing goodbyeadieu@sympatico.ca .
